Getting ready for a big weekend

I've mentioned that my dear doctor put my on sick leave for the next few weeks. Well that would be all nice and cosy if it was at all realistic. I have a big weekend ahead of me and I'm not about to compromise on it because of a few obstinate smashed up discs in my back, a right leg that I can hardly feel except the pain it chooses to extrude and an arm that looks very strong since its swollen but is just the opposite. I mean isn't that what my nine or so pills three times a day are supposed to deal with?

So gearing up for it I needed to quickly get in semi shape for the weekend today friday. Well, at least my humble goal was to be able to walk for more than 200 meters without having a massive sweat attack and wishing to volunteer my right leg to science as long as they cut it off, and getting rid of the pain in the process.

Since I sacked the physiotherapist from the hospital the very same instant she handed me a fresh stencil of stone age exercises, I had to get a new one for getting the job done. And fast at that. After thinking about it for a while I realized that the answer to the perfect subject for the job was staring right at me. Literally!

Who better than Taz, my 11 year old (but still going strong), on the grumpy side, Jack Russel! Simply the ultimate physiotherapist! Said and done, I drafted up a contract, he had his layers look at it, made some minor changes and then I signed and he left his paw mark on it. We were in business. He warned me that this was going to get painful, that it would get worse before it got better, that I had to put my trust in his hands and that he would not allow any winging from my side, regardless of what he chose to put me though. I agreed, somewhat reluctantly but kept my goal in mind. No pain, no gain!

Although it ended up being pretty much as painful as he had warned me, it actually felt like it did me a lot of good. I have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed by his methods though. To me It seemed like he was not really following much of a plan except to have fun for himself, simply having me follow him around while he was doing so. He assured me that although it may seem that way, it's a proven method that will not leave me disappointed once I've followed the whole program through. Him chewing on sticks was apparently also part of his great master plan, I just needed to see the bigger picture he said. When I asked where we were actually heading he said: "If you focus to much on the destination, it will take you twice as long to get there, You will have one eye on it and one on the road, instead of both on the road". Well despite his philosophical clichés, the little rascal must have known what he was doing (besides being paid by the hour) since I felt I did make some progress physically and hence it did prepare me at least a little bit for the big weekend, which will probably be quite similar. Only instead of having him drag me around, it will be my kids.

Now that will be the real test to say the least. Make or brake you might say.

Wish me luck!

Ok, do exactly as I say...
