Melancholy monday

Some days just are a bit more melancholy than others. Although I may have my reasons, they by themselves are not the cause. Even without reason one may be forgiven for simply waking up in the morning and having those feelings decide to be your companion that specific day. And it's not necessarily a negative thing neither. Melancholy for me is not being sad, it's more a mellowness. Some will say one should always strive to think positive thoughts and seek happiness at all times. I on the other hand prefer the variety of ups and downs. I rather choose to embrace this mood and go with it. I take the opportunity to contemplate random things I otherwise would not give myself the time to do, and let my mind wonder freely. I explore paths that would not have been chosen if my state of mind would have been filled with joy.

Creatively this very much effects me too. When it comes to my sketching or painting it naturally shifts in subject matter and execution depending on where my mind is at.

Similarly what I choose to read or what music I choose to listen to varies as a result of this as well.

And although the choice of music may be the simplest metaphor for this it is still a relevant one which is also easy to relate to. I just now chose these three:

Lana del Ray and "Blue Jeans". An artist and a song that have left few people untouched in the last year. My second example is an artist and a song that is actually 21 years old by now. Chris Isaak and "Wicked game". Both of these are quite similar in nature and the videos actually bare equally similar resemblance. Another song which fits the purpose is "Society" by Eddie Vedder, performed live in the attached clip.

All of the above perfectly examplify what I may indulge in when embracing and enjoying a melancholy monday...
